Our Approach
Every guide on this site is a researched editorial profile, not a first-hand review and not a placement a hotel purchased. This page explains the difference and the standard behind it.
What a guide is, and is not
A guide on this site is a long-form editorial profile: history, design, rooms, restaurants, wellness, and the practical detail needed to plan an actual trip. It is written in the third person and does not claim a first-hand stay unless the article says so explicitly. When it does, that stay's terms (paid or hosted) are disclosed at the top of the piece.
There is no numeric score. A hotel earning a place here has cleared an editorial bar, not a formula, and the writing is expected to carry the judgment instead of hiding it behind a number.
The four criteria for inclusion
Every property considered for this site is measured against the same four questions, applied identically from a tea-country bungalow to a private island.
- 01
- Design & architecture
- A point of view carried through from the gate to the last door handle, not a decorative style applied over a standard floor plan.
- 02
- Sense of place
- The property could not be picked up and set down somewhere else. It answers to its landscape, climate, and local craft.
- 03
- Service reputation
- Consistency reported across seasons and sources: guest accounts, industry press, and trade recognition, not one glowing write-up from a launch week.
- 04
- Guest experience
- What the stay actually delivers: kitchen, spa, excursions, the ordinary hour between activities, not just the photographs.
How facts are checked
Facts (opening dates, ownership, room counts, restaurant names, architects) are researched against primary sources: the property's own materials, its parent group, published trade and travel press, and, where available, guest and industry reporting. Pricing is given as an indicative "from" rate rather than a fixed figure, since rates move with season and currency; readers should confirm the current rate directly with the property before booking.
Photography is sourced and credited honestly. Where a specific image of a named property cannot be verified, the caption says so rather than implying it depicts a room or view that it does not.
Independence
No property pays for inclusion, for a favourable mention, or for removal of an unflattering detail. If a guide is ever informed by a hosted press stay, that is disclosed at the top of the article, not buried in a footer.
Inclusion in a collection or destination guide is an editorial decision made by the collective, never a media package a hotel can purchase.
Corrections
Hotels change hands, restaurants close, prices move. If a detail on this site is wrong or out of date, tell us through the contact page and we will verify and correct it, with a visible update date on the guide.
